Woodpecker Control
Woodpeckers
can be a major nuisance, but woodpecker control methods are limited
to humane bird control methods as they are protected by the Federal
Migratory Bird Treaty Act. The most effective way to
control them is to use ¾”
netting for a complete bird barrier that excludes
these pest birds from structures. However, other humane woodpecker
deterrents that can be effective are audio, visual and taste repellents—
especially when combined
together and if applied when the problem first arises.
Our woodpecker
hole filler is an environmentally safe, non-toxic, resin-repair
system specifically designed to repair damage caused by
woodpeckers to wood structures and provide a natural
woodpecker deterrent. When the woodpecker drills into the
hole, it is met with a nasty taste and odor, making it undesirable
to peck there again. Use the woodpecker hole filler where woodpeckers
have drilled to prevent further damage, and follow up with woodpecker
repellant taste-aversion spray over the entire problem area
to deter future drilling. A protective woodpecker
paint additive is also available for long-lasting extra protection.
As with
any non-permanent bird deterrent, you can increase the effectiveness
of bird taste repellents by combining them with bird visual deterrents
such as scare
eye balloons, octopus,
bird
scare spider or mylar flash
tape. These bird deterrents give the woodpecker a feeling of
being threatened by predators, and when combined with an unpleasant
tasting drilling site, the problem woodpecker is less likely to
stay in the area.
We also
carry high-tech audio woodpecker deterrrents like the Bird
XPeller-Pro that can be effective in extreme cases against certain
species of woodpeckers. These audio bird control units are programmed
with distress calls of many woodpecker species, plus predator attack
cries and loud noises like gun shots. When used with the visual
bird control devices above, these sounds give the woodpecker a feeling
of being surrounded by predators, convincing them to find more desirable
surroundings.
Remember
you should combine at least one taste woodpecker repellent with
at least one visual or audio woodpecker repellant. For
your convenience, we have put together several woodpecker
control kits, although extra products may be ordered individually
for larger areas of coverage.
